MyJury ("we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use the MyJury mobile application and website (collectively, the "Service").
Please read this policy carefully. If you disagree with its terms, please discontinue use of the Service.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information You Provide
- Account information: email address, username, and password when you register. Passwords are stored only in hashed form by our authentication provider.
- Profile information (optional): display name, country, website, Instagram handle, and profile photo.
- Photographs: images you upload for community review, together with the goal, comparison type, and competition category you choose.
- Votes: the answers you give when voting on other photographers' submissions (Yes / No / Not Sure, or your choice in a comparison) and any category suggestions you make.
- Safety actions: posts you hide, reports you file about submissions or profiles (including the reason and any details), and photographers you block.
- Consent choices: your acceptance of our Terms of Service & EULA (the version and the date you accepted) and your Promotional Usage setting, including a dated record each time you change it.
- Communications: messages you send us through the contact form or by email.
1.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Device identifier: a hashed identifier derived from your device, used only to detect duplicate or fraudulent accounts.
- IP address and approximate location: when the app checks whether rewarded ads and in-app purchases are available to you, your IP address is used to determine your country and whether you are connecting through a VPN, proxy, or datacenter network. We store only a hashed form of the IP address alongside the result, for up to 24 hours.
- Usage and integrity data: voting activity and timing, daily vote counts, and submission activity, used to enforce limits and power our anti-fraud systems.
- Credit transactions: records of credits earned, purchased, and spent.
- Ad activity: whether a rewarded ad was requested, shown, completed, or unavailable, your country, VPN status, and ad-consent state, used to grant rewards and prevent abuse.
- Push notification token: if you allow notifications, a token that lets us deliver notifications to your device.
1.3 Information from Third Parties
- Apple / Google (in-app purchases): transaction identifiers and receipts for credit purchases, which we verify with the store. We never receive or store your payment card details.
- Google AdMob: if you watch a rewarded ad, Google confirms to us that the ad was completed so we can grant your credit.
1.4 Profile Visibility
You control your profile in the app under Settings → Privacy → Profile Visibility. When it is Visible and you have set a display name, you are listed on the Top Jurors leaderboard and other signed-in members can open your profile, which shows your display name, country, profile photo, website and Instagram links, join date, badges, Verified Photographer status, and voting statistics. When it is Hidden, you are not listed and nobody else can open your profile. Members you have blocked, or who have blocked you, cannot see your profile. Your submitted photographs and individual votes are never displayed on your profile or in any public portfolio.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To create and manage your account.
- To run community voting, calculate your results, and award badges.
- To process purchases, grant earned credits, and maintain your credit balance.
- To decide whether rewarded ads and in-app purchases can be offered in your region, as required by our ad partner and by sanctions law.
- To detect and prevent fraud, vote manipulation, and abuse.
- To review reports and enforce our Terms of Service and content rules.
- To send you notifications, such as when your results are ready (with your permission).
- To respond to support and contact enquiries.
- To improve the Service based on aggregated, anonymised usage patterns.
2.1 Legal Bases (EEA / UK users)
We process your data to perform our contract with you (running your account, voting, and credits); on the basis of our legitimate interests (preventing fraud, keeping the community safe, and improving the Service); to comply with legal obligations (such as sanctions rules and responding to lawful requests); and on the basis of your consent where we ask for it (Promotional Usage, personalised advertising, and push notifications). You can withdraw consent at any time.
3. How We Store Your Information
Your data is stored with Supabase, our cloud database, authentication, and file storage provider. Data is encrypted in transit using TLS and encrypted at rest. Photographs are kept in private storage and are only delivered through short-lived, secure links to signed-in users.
For each submission we store a reduced-size preview and a larger detail view, which jurors can see while voting, and a stored original (resized to a maximum of 2048 pixels wide), which only you can access.
Some of our service providers may process data outside your country of residence.
Retention and deletion: we keep your data for as long as your account is active. You can delete individual submissions from the Results tab (or from the submission's detail screen), and delete your whole account in Settings → Account Data → Delete My Account. Deleted content is hidden immediately and permanently erased — including the associated images — within 30 days. Until then it may remain in backups. Votes you cast are kept only after all links to your account are removed, so they are no longer personal data and other photographers' results stay accurate.
4. Sharing Your Information
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information. We share information only with the following, and only as needed to run the Service:
- Supabase: database, authentication, and file storage.
- Google AdMob: rewarded advertising (see Section 8).
- IPinfo (ipinfo.io): receives your IP address to determine country and VPN/proxy status for ad and purchase eligibility.
- Expo (push notification service): delivers notifications to your device via Apple Push Notification service and Google Firebase Cloud Messaging.
- Apple and Google: in-app purchase processing and verification.
- Legal requirements: if required by law or court order, to report illegal content such as child sexual abuse material to the relevant authorities, or to protect the rights and safety of our users.
- Business transfers: in the event of a merger or acquisition, your data may be transferred as part of that transaction, with prior notice given to you.
5. Photographs and Content
5.1 Your Content and Licence to MyJury
Photographs you submit remain your intellectual property. By uploading images, you confirm that you own the rights to them or have permission to submit them. You grant MyJury a limited, non-exclusive licence to store, process, and display the images within the Service for community review and voting. Jurors are not told who submitted an image. We do not use your photographs for advertising, for training AI models, or for any purpose beyond operating the Service — except as described in Section 5.2, and only with your explicit, opt-in consent.
5.2 Promotional Use of Your Images (Optional, Opt-in)
Separately from the licence above, you may choose to allow MyJury, its affiliated networks, and media partners to feature your submitted images for promotional and educational purposes. This is controlled by the "Feature my images (always credited)" toggle in the app under Settings → Privacy → Promotional Usage, which reads:
"I allow MyJury, its affiliated networks, and media partners to feature my submitted images across official websites, social media, print/digital publications, exhibitions, and video platforms (including YouTube showcases and compilations) for promotional and educational purposes. The photographer's name will always be credited. You can change this setting at any time."
This setting is off by default. We only use your images for promotional purposes if you have explicitly switched it on. When featured, your photographer name is always credited. You may withdraw consent at any time — future use will stop, though materials already published before you changed the setting may not be retractable.
6. Age Requirement
MyJury is intended only for adults. You must be 18 years or older to use the Service, and you confirm this when you accept our Terms. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
7. Your Rights
Depending on where you live — including under the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and similar laws — you have rights regarding your personal data, including:
- Access: request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correction: update your profile directly in Settings, or ask us to correct inaccurate data.
- Deletion ("Right to be Forgotten"): delete submissions from the Results tab and your account from Settings → Account Data → Delete My Account, or email us. Your profile and submissions are hidden immediately and permanently erased, including stored images, within 30 days.
- Portability: request your data in a machine-readable format.
- Objection / withdrawing consent: object to certain processing, and withdraw optional consents — such as Promotional Usage, ad personalisation, or notifications — at any time.
- Complaint: lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

8. Advertising and Tracking
Watching rewarded ads is entirely optional — you can always earn credits by voting instead. Ads are served by Google AdMob. Where required (for example in the EEA and UK), the app first shows Google's consent form so you can choose whether ads may be personalised; you can review that choice later from the app. On iOS, the app may also ask for permission to use your device's Advertising Identifier (IDFA) under Apple's App Tracking Transparency framework. Declining only means ads are less relevant. Google's use of data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
9. Push Notifications
With your permission, we send push notifications — for example, when your submission's results are ready, or reminders when there are photos waiting for your vote. You can turn notifications off at any time in your device's system settings. Signing out stops notifications to that device.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page, and for significant changes we will notify you in the app. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
